Founded in 1966, Boston Partners in Education enhances the academic achievement and nurtures the personal growth of Boston's public school students by providing them with focused, individualized in-school volunteer support.
For more than 40 years, Boston Partners in Education has supported student advancement and the work of Boston’s public school teachers. We provide training, placement and support to volunteer academic mentors in the Boston Public Schools. Volunteers help students gain the skills, self-confidence and motivation they need to succeed academically and personally.
During the 2008-2009 school year, Boston Partners in Education reached 5,899 students in 69 schools throughout Boston. We recruited, trained, placed, and supported 914 volunteer academic mentors to work with students one-on-one, in small groups, and with entire classrooms.
Through comprehensive tutoring and mentor training, Boston Partners in Education strengthens the ability of our academic mentors to make a positive impact on Boston Public School students. Boston Partners in Education volunteers report their students show an increased interest in academics; improved academic performance in math and English Language Arts; enhanced self-esteem and a better work ethic.
Boston Partners in Education’s role as a link between schools and the community is crucial as we work together with the Boston Public Schools to close the achievement gap among the city’s students.
