Boston Partners in Education speaks with Jay Shuman, CFO of Boston Financial Data Services one of our Corporate Sponsors for 2010 and a Big Cheese Reader.

"Boston Financial forms strong relationships with both external and internal stakeholders. We exercise corporate responsibility by investing in individuals and the greater community. A company where the talent and innovation of our associates drives success, Boston Financial is especially conscious of fostering an environment where the organization and its surrounding neighbors can grow and thrive together.

Boston Partners in Education is an excellent alliance in our community enrichment efforts. As a 2010 Big Cheese Reads Junior Corporate Sponsor, our corporation shares a vision for creating long-term opportunities for education and achievement. Investing in such a foundational component for literacy and success is a great way for Boston Financial to give back to the community where our associates live and work."

CFO Jay Shuman speaks about his experience in the classroom as a Big Cheese Reader:

"The Big Cheese Reads program gives companies and individuals the chance to make a difference in our community, from the ground up. By directly reaching out to the young people in our society, we have an opportunity to impact the leaders of tomorrow in a meaningful way. Establishing a dialogue through the program allows us to change students' perspectives on reading and learning in general, and opens the door to a greater understanding of the opportunities available to them. It's a rewarding experience.

Plus, I enjoy the interaction with the kids. Their honesty, innocence, and sometimes very "probing" questions, are refreshing. Also, during my Big Cheese visit two years ago I was somehow persuaded to juggle for the students!!"

Boston Financial is the proud recipient of The Nicholas A. Lopardo Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award. Given at the 2010 Boston Partners in Education Volunteer Recognition event, the award was presented by Pamela Civins, Executive Director and Meg Jordan, Board Vice Chair.

"Being selected as the Corporate Volunteer of the Year is a reflection of the dedication that our organization has to enhancing the educational experience of our community, one student at a time. From mentoring individuals to reading to an entire classroom, I believe those at Boston Financial have wholeheartedly embraced the mission of Boston Partners in Education. We are honored by this special recognition and look forward to many more years of successful community partnership."
